Crossroads' Hearts
Thank you for your input! We're grateful for your participation this term. To learn how we used your feedback, please check out our Report to the Community by downloading it from the task bar to the right.
NOTE: This project is now closed. As a studio team, we will no longer be monitoring responses.
Welcome! We're excited you’re here. This page is for you and your neighbours.
As part of our studio project, we selected four areas in Crossroads where we could dream big about the future. We are calling these areas Hearts.
We need your help designing one Heart. There are opportunities for you to participate and provide your input using the tabs below. Let's get started!

Brainstorm a Bold Future
about 4 years agoThis is your community brainstorm board. Use this space to post and share ideas. Your ideas will help design this Heart. Dream big and be bold! Click on "View All Ideas" to add your idea.
Need a reminder of where the Heart is located? Click here.
Need some inspiration? Read the details below.
What could an idea look like?
- We are looking for small things you and your neighbour could do and big things that might take a bit more community and city support.
- We are expecting you to borrow ideas from other neighbourhoods in Calgary and suggest other ideas that may be brand new to our City.
- We are open to ideas that could happen tomorrow and ideas that may take a few years to get off the ground.
How will we be listening?
We will be watching your community brainstorm board. We'll download your comments and review your images. We will create a visual of the Heart using your brainstormed ideas and we will suggest a number of short, medium, and long term recommendations to realize your Heart vision.
dkbstephensabout 4 years agoSeamless integration to neighbours to the west.
As the crow flies Mayland Heights is very close to downtown, Renfrew, Bridgeland and the Nosecreek bike path system. The challenge is that there are obstacles (Deerfoot Trail and hills) that make if feel far away and unappealing to walk to or ride your bike to. Telus Spark, The Zoo, the amazing shops and restaurants on 1st Avenue (Bridgeland) and Edmonton Trail (Renfrew) are all so close yet so far. What is interesting is there is an enormous amount of green space to work with and there really are no industrial areas to work around. Maybe we could look at Mayland as an extension of inner core rather than merging it with Northeast industrial areas. Growing up in Renfrew, before Deerfoot trail existed, we often played in the gully with our neighbours of Mayland Heights and Belfast. They were our neighbours.

0 comment0Edwardbabout 4 years agoVista Heights needs better or more sidewalks, we need to feel connected to the community as well. Right now we feel isolated and set aside.
Vista Heights is part of the Crossroads Community however no new ideas are in this for vista. I see there are plans for better walk ways from Mayland Heights to a industrial park not part of crossroads community. Vista Heights desperately needs better walkways, we have really bad connections to Mayland Heights. Vista Heights is so isolated we are easily forgotten and it would be nice to start feeling like we are part of the community
1 comment0Annetteabout 4 years agoFirestone high rise residential with indoor and outdoor climbing wall facility. Also a little library at the train station.
This Firestone location is perfect for people to live in and access the train station. It would have shops and a much needed local coffee shop. The Climbing wall would be a mix of indoor and outdoor facility. The windows and the out door wall of the facility would open up to the amazing view of the city and mountains. There would also be a little library at the train station like the Nicholls Family Library at the Westbrook train station. When we moved back to the community I noticed that it is really hard to access the library and I think the train station is perfect for a drop off and pick up area. I also see this as a spot where people can access fresh food as well. YYCgrowers has a pick up location at the Shawnessy train station. https://www.google.com/maps/place/Nicholls+Family+Library/@51.0399719,-114.1354462,17.25z/data=!4m5!3m4!1s0x0:0x9ba82aaff34019f8!8m2!3d51.0404181!4d-114.1361965
