The Manchester city centre is transformed into a winter wonderland during the Christmas period, with Christmas lights and little stalls selling a variety of ware. These vary from exquisite hand made tree decorations that can be personalised, trinkets, jewellery , clothing, quirky curios, home wear and plants.

Food stalls with offerings from all over the the UK and around the world, are a personal favourite. To name a few: Bratwurst, cheese, pies, pasties, wraps, sweetmeats, paella, churros, pretzels, food form the Indian subcontinent, Middle East and Far East.

Traditional ales and warm mulled wine in souvenir mugs are a highlight.

A visit to these markets is a must, I think, on the ‘to do’ list of every visitor and local equally. And, may I emphatically add, that it would warm the cockles of the heart and bring in a sense Christmas Warmth and Spirit in every Grinch or Scrooge.
